Tenotomy Railbar Shoe

Tenotomy Railbar Shoe

Size
Note: All NANRIC aluminum shoes are grooved but not perforated, as the position and pitch of the nail hole is best left to the discretion of the farrier.

Deep digital flexor (DDF) tenotomy is a viable option for treating multiple stages of moderate to severe laminitis. When the decision is made to cut the DDF, it is imperative that the volar surface of the PIII be properly realigned (derotated) immediately prior to surgery. This realignment/derotation completes the surgery and greatly increases the likelihood of a positive outcome.

For years, Dr. Redden has used a rail shoe to aid in derotation of the volar surface of the PIII. He used Advance Cushion Support to get the positioning right, then glued the rail shoe in place with Equilox.

This aluminum 4-point tenotomy bar shoe has the same design as the original rail shoe, but it offers a heel expander in the back of the shoe to prevent unwarranted and unexpected hyper-extension (lifting of the toes) after DDF surgery. This tenotomy bar shoe is a valuable time saver for farriers/veterinarians who would otherwise have to make the shoe. It is also an effective way to enhance the therapeutic effects of the derotation bracket immediately before DDF surgery.
